Thanks for that, Ex. One of my favourite tunes. The vocals sound great, even better than i remembered. My only request would be to increase the volume/clarity of the short burst 3 beat 'sawing' type sound that is there from the beginning. It sorta adds to the chaos of the track that i love so much ;D
Everytime i hear this track the Berlin video runs through my head...a good thing because Sara rocks out hard in that (and looks damn fine doing so). If only the other vocalists were as animated on stage.
I keep pm'ing MP and D regarding posting up a full vocal version of this track for us but no responses. Any chance that anyone in contact with them could prod them a little and see what they have to say? Even if they just email the file...i won't share it with anyone else if they don't want it 'out there'....promise ;D

I think I can comment on all of your points there mate.
I actually decided to rip the intro in mono. Why? Well the tune is out of phase on the DVD, that is to say its too sided to the left, but now you've pointed it out, yes do you lose the impact of that sawing effect panning round, so perhaps I'll do it again this time manually balancing out the left and right on the intro.
I asked Neil about Wire back in December 2005 when I went down there whether it was gonna be on Collected. Neil said he had to go back to listen to it recently to check for something and that he and D both didn't think it was very *shake of the head, upturn of the nose*. They don't like it much basically so they're not putting it out and I think its as simple as that really. As I recall they weren't too happy with Nature Boy either, to give another example.

Would be much appreciated if you could get that sawing effect back to the fore. The rip you did really brings Sara's voice out and what a beautiful voice it is. Pity they didn't do more work with her i think it would've worked well...especially live where she brings that extra dynamic.
I still can't believe that Rob and Neil don't really like the track...the beats are great as are the vocals and a sort of controlled chaos. Kicks arse over tracks such as False Flags yet they've released that one...
I just thought that they might of released a few of the tracks that members of the forum have requested over the years. Doesn't have to be any fancy announcements etc, just a 'here's a few rarities for you guys...thanks for all the support over the years'. Surely they must realise that there is a huge appetite for these sorta things? All they would have to do is check through the 'Live vids and audio' thread to see that !
And well they may point to Collected and say we've already done that but that was just the tip of the iceberg imo ...even Dot got to put Aftersun on her website yet they couldn't be arsed to even put a post on their own forum !
Well, i'm getting a bit wound up again (the topic of Wire generally does that to me) so i'll leave it that.
Thanks again Ex for the better quality rip...legend ;D

Hmmm. I do like False Flags as a track, although its strange I was commenting to the Dav how the voices are the only constant thing left in Massive; that other than the D vocal what is it about that track that makes it MA... think it came across as a criticism or... ohIdontknow.
If I was going to pick a track to use for your argument I would've opted for Black Melt or one of the others on Disc 2 more. Disc 2 wasn't put together logically, that is to say it is not geared towards the 'collectionist' as the title of the package implies, rather its just a hotch-potch of stuff including bits already available anyway, like the omission of Hymn on Disc 1, I found the hotch-potchness of Disc 2 illogical to the theme of the release, and as you say it wasn't necessarily about sharing the best of the rarities so why not just bookend all the unreleased yet known to exist tracks on Disc 2.
If Im to be objective about this I don't think Wire is one of the greatest MA songs and Jay's timing of the vocal seems to be better on the live version. The lyrics don't do much for me and I havent ever seen Jay perform so cant comment there. I do think by usual MA standards the intro to Wire is a little bit off, even if it is deliberately meant to be a little lo-fi and the thrashy textures that Angelo generates these days are a lot cooler. That said its hardly a shit track and would've sat well on Disc 2 as I've said.
Tbh I don't reckon they like Aftersun that much either. Don't forget Danny the Dog was purely about money and getting a score under the belt. Recall a quote from Allison saying they thought they could've done better. There's definitely a lot more work that goes into a Massive Attack album track than a soundtrack piece, however credited, due to the increased expectation for surprise and originality from the band.
Hope I sound coherent as I feel a bit groggy right now!
